Mildred Mariel

JAZZ BASSIST

IMG_4451_edited.jpg

Mildred Mariel is a jazz double bassist and bandleader from Mexico City, whose journey with music began at age 18. Graduating from the Escuela Superior de Música, she quickly became a part of the vibrant jazz scene, performing at iconic venues like the Auditorio Nacional, Teatro Metropólitan, and Palacio de los Deportes. Her collaborations include recordings such as Rosa Mexicano with the Calacas Jazz Band and Paulina Parga’s EP, Manual de Duelo, recorded just before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently pursuing a Master’s in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, Mildred is focused on a special project: directing and arranging for her jazz orchestra, a group that connects jazz lovers and those open to genre fusion. Through this project, she aims to preserve the tradition of jazz while exploring new musical landscapes.

For Mildred, the double bass is more than an instrument—it is her voice, an extension of herself, and a tool for storytelling. It has brought her to unexpected places and allowed her to grow as both a musician and a person. She passionately keeps the history of jazz alive, embracing its roots while continuing to push its boundaries. Whether playing in intimate combos or leading a full orchestra, she relishes the opportunity to create and share music. Mildred is currently making her mark in the Dallas-Fort Worth jazz scene, continually learning, connecting, and refining her craft.
